Chievo manager Rolando Maran has hailed the character of his side following their victory against city rivals Hellas Verona.

Alberto Paloschi scored the only goal of the game as Chievo claimed a 1-0 triumph in the Derby della Scala.

"The team worked in the right way to win a game with a thousand different aspects to it. Obviously we wanted to do well in the derby," Maran told Sky Sport Italia.

"I knew it was going to be a muscular encounter and so we needed to put all our strength on to the field in order to end the game without regrets. We played with character and courage.

"Everyone put in a good performance and you win the derby with heart, not just the mind."

Chievo's victory has moved them up to 15th in the Serie A table, one place below Verona.
