Colchester United confirm Brian Wilson departure

Colchester United confirm that captain Brian Wilson has decided to leave the club after rejecting a contract extension.

Colchester United have confirmed that captain Brian Wilson has left the club after rejecting a new deal.

The 30-year-old defender arrived at the Colchester Community Stadium from Bristol City in 2010.

"I did try and keep Brian but I understand that it can be a difficult situation," U's boss Joe Dunne told the club's official website.

"We are in a financial market where there are other clubs able to pay players more than we do. When that situation arises, you have a decision to make.

"I fully respect Brian's decision, he's been great for us and he was my captain. We tried to keep him but wish him all the best in the future."

Colchester recently finished their League One campaign in 16th place in the table.
