Clinton Morrison is to remain in League One this season after agreeing a two-year deal with Colchester United on a free transfer.
The forward played in the league last season for promoted Sheffield Wednesday, but left the club after his contract expired this summer.
Morrison is confident that he will be "loved" at his new club and believes that he will link up well with fellow new recruit Freddie Sears.
"I am a player who likes to be loved, and with a manager here who has been chasing me for about a year and a half, I think I will be loved," Morrison told the club's official website.
"I think we'll play football to my strengths and hopefully, I'll reward him by scoring goals.
"This is a good thing that people might not know - [Sears and I] played together when he came on loan to Crystal Palace."
Morrison has 36 caps for the Republic of Ireland.
