Geoff Thomas wants Crystal Palace job

Former Crystal Palace captain Geoff Thomas says that he would 'pack his bags immediately' if offered the Eagles' job.

Former Crystal Palace captain Geoff Thomas has declared an interest in the vacant manager's post at the South London club.

The 49-year-old made over 200 appearances for the Eagles between 1987 and 1993, captaining them in the 1990 FA Cup final.

He was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia in 2003 but is now ready to return to the game and said that he would be extremely interested in succeeding Ian Holloway at Selhurst Park.

He told the Croydon Advertiser: "I would love the opportunity to get back into football but it's risky. There are a few people who have said they'd take them with me to Palace and I would jump at that but they haven't ended up getting the job.

"There are a few jobs that I would take no questions asked and if Palace came knocking that would be it, my bags would be packed immediately.

"It seems like all my team-mates have had a go, so I think I could do it. [Chairman] Steve Parish has got my number."

Palace have been without a manager for almost four weeks. According to the latest reports, they are again speaking with Tony Pulis over the vacancy.

The Eagles are six points adrift of safety at the bottom of the Premier League.
