Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers rules out taking England job

Brendan Rodgers rules out becoming the next England manager as he intends to begin a new spell in charge of Celtic.

Brendan Rodgers has insisted that he has no intention of becoming the next England manager as he prepares to embark on his new role as Celtic boss.

The Northern Irishman, who was sacked by Liverpool in October, was named as Ronny Deila's successor on a 12-month rolling contract in May.

Rodgers was linked to the England job prior to his appointment in Scotland, and has been asked about possibly replacing Roy Hodgson after the 68-year-old announced his resignation following the Three Lions' Euro 2016 exit.

"I've just landed my dream job," The Mirror quotes Rodgers as saying. "The team I've supported all my life. I haven't even walked out for my first game.

"Is it flattering? It's football. There are very few professions where one minute you're up, then down, then up again - that's just how it goes.

"If people think I can do jobs at a high level, then that's fine. But I'm busy here, worrying about what I have to do here. I'll be at Celtic, that's for sure."

England Under-21s manager Gareth Southgate was the early favourite to replace Hodgson, but he is reportedly not interested in taking the role.
