Rio Ferdinand: 'England's golden generation weren't good enough'

Rio Ferdinand admits that England's 'golden generation' weren't good enough to compete for a major trophy.

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has admitted that England's 'golden generation' were not good enough to win major honours.

While Ferdinand, Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard, John Terry, Frank Lampard, David Beckham and Michael Owen have all been regarded as some of the best players in world football during their careers, none has lifted an international trophy.

Ferdinand wrote on Twitter: "In most PL teams retaining the ball is done best by foreign players in the team...they are taught to pass to a man with a man on #DealWithit.

"So called 'Golden generation' obviously wasn't 'golden' because we won nothing! Great players don't always make great teams."

Meanwhile, the Three Lions are preparing to take on Brazil in South America for an international friendly tomorrow.
