Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand has admitted that he was "very" disappointed to be left out of Roy Hodgson's latest England squad.
Bertrand, on loan from Chelsea, has been ever present in a Saints side that sit second in the Premier League table after winning eight of their first 11 games.
However, the 25-year-old was not included in Hodgson's 26-man squad for upcoming internationals with Slovenia and Scotland, a decision that he admits confused him.
When asked if he was disappointed by the snub, Bertrand, who has two caps, told reporters: "Yeah, very. I've started very well this season, we're second in the league, so I don't know what the criteria is to get in there at the minute."
The Three Lions face Slovenia in a Euro 2016 qualifier at Wembley on Saturday, before facing Scotland in a friendly at Celtic Park three days later.
