Everton boss Roberto Martinez: 'We can cope with Europa League challenge'

Roberto Martinez insists that his Everton squad can cope with the demands of Europa League football.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has insisted that his squad are strong enough to cope with the challenge of playing in the Europa League.

The Merseyside outfit will take on Wolfsburg at Goodison Park on Thursday night to mark their return to European competition for the first time in 52 years.

The additional games can put a strain on clubs' domestic campaigns, but Martinez has insisted that his squad are embracing the task.

"The squad is big enough," Martinez told talkSPORT. "The younger players we produce at the club are ready to help the team. It is something that we embrace.

"We want to change the mentality. If you want to cope with a lot of games in a short period of time it is more a mental thing.

"We need to develop that winning mentality, we need to develop that desire to be in different competitions. I don't see it as a problem at all."

Everton's fellow Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur will also be in action on Thursday night when they take on Partizan in Serbia.
