Sean Dyche will be looking to achieve an Everton first in Saturday's Premier League home game against Aston Villa.

Everton boss Sean Dyche will be looking to etch his name in the club's history books in Saturday's home meeting with Aston Villa.

The former Burnley manager began his tenure with a surprise 1-0 home victory over Arsenal, before his first away match as Toffees boss ended in a 2-0 defeat to local rivals Liverpool.

Everton bounced back from derby disappointment last weekend, claiming a narrow 1-0 victory over Leeds United thanks to Seamus Coleman's 64th-minute goal.

The Toffees moved out of the bottom three as a result of the Leeds win, and they head into the weekend in 16th place - just one point above the drop zone.

After winning his first two games at Goodison Park, Dyche will now be aiming to become the fifth Everton manager to win his first three home matches.

Rafael Benitez was the most recent Toffees boss to achieve the feat in 2021, while Harry Catterick (1961), Dick Molyneux (1889) and William Edward Barclay (1888) also managed to claim victory in their opening three home games in the Everton dugout.

However, Dyche has the chance to stand out from those who have gone before him by becoming the first Everton boss to win his first three home games without conceding.

The hosts may be concerned by the fact that they have lost their last two league games against Aston Villa at Goodison Park.

As a result, the Merseyside club are at risk of losing three consecutive home meetings with the Villans for the first time in their league history.

In fact, Everton have not beaten Aston Villa home or away since securing a 3-1 victory at Villa Park in March 2016.

The Toffees will go into Saturday's encounter without the services of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has been ruled out due to a hamstring injury.

Everton have at least been boosted by the news that goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has signed a new contract until June 2027.

The England number one will look to mark his extension by keeping a third consecutive home clean sheet.
