Craig Sibbald goal puts Falkirk through to Scottish Cup semi-final

Falkirk are through to the Scottish Cup semi-finals following a 1-0 victory over Queen of the South.

Falkirk are through to the Scottish Cup semi-final after a 1-0 win over fellow Championship club Queen of the South at Palmerston Park.

Former Hibernian midfielder Tom Taiwo was the first to threaten when he shot over the bar in the 13th minute.

A minute later, Queens striker Iain Russell took the ball round keeper Jamie MacDonald but David McCracken made the last-ditch tackle.

Craig Sibbald broke the deadlock in the 34th minute, heading the ball into the bottom right corner after Luke Leahy's cross.

Gavin Reilly's shot from inside the penalty area was stopped by MacDonald on the verge of half time.

Falkirk's lead was nearly doubled in the 57th minute, but Peter Grant's header went narrowly wide of goal.

Russell had two chances to equalise, but could not direct the ball on target on either occasion.

After seven minutes of stoppage time due to an injury to Leahy, Falkirk's place in the semi-final was finally confirmed.

Falkirk could play against lower-division opposition in the semi-final as a maximum of two Scottish Premiership clubs will progress this weekend.
