Tom Cairney 'surprised' by Blackburn Rovers exit

Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney backs Blackburn Rovers to recover from their slow start to the season, as he prepares to take on his former side this weekend.

Tom Cairney has revealed that joining Fulham from Blackburn Rovers this summer came as a "little bit of a surprise" to him.

The 24-year-old made 80 appearances for the Lancashire outfit before signing a four-year deal at Craven Cottage in June.

Cairney, who harbours hopes of earning a senior Scotland call-up, is confident that his former club can recover from their slow start to the campaign.

"I'd heard little bits about it towards the end of last season but it was still a little bit of a surprise," he told Get West London.

"I suppose the big moves drag out a little bit because you're talking about extortionate amounts of money but mine went through quite quickly.

"It's not been the best start, but I don't worry about [Blackburn] and I think they'll be fine. They've kept Jordan Rhodes, which is massive, and I think they've still got a good back-four."

Fulham, boosted by their first away win of the season last time out, play host to Rovers on Sunday afternoon.
