Jonjo Shelvey strikes to heap more misery on Fulham

Fulham lost at home to Swansea City in the Premier League after a late goal from Jonjo Shelvey.

Swansea City have beaten Fulham with a late goal from substitute Jonjo Shelvey.

The home side pushed forward early on, and Dimitar Berbatov showed his quality with a bicycle kick that flew into Michel Vorm's arms.

The Swans failed to make their spell of pressure count in the opening 10 minutes, with their best moments being a corner that was cleared and a Jonathan de Guzman free kick that Fulham dealt with.

Pajtim Kasami claimed for a penalty after Fulham stole the ball from their opponents, and then Roland Lamah raided down the wing for the away side as the match swung from end to end.

However, Swansea were inches away from taking the lead with 25 minutes on the clock. Lamah ran down the left and cut inside before firing a shot that took a deflection and went just wide.

It was Fulham's turn to then go close as Darren Bent directed a header wide after Scott Parker had found the striker at the back post.

Bent came even closer minutes later, this time hitting the post with a half-volley after being left unmarked in the middle.

Swansea had two good chances to take the lead just before half time, first through Nathan Dyer, who saw his shot saved, and then Wilfried Bony, who headed over the bar.

The Swans started the second half with attacking intent. After a corner was cleared by the Fulham defence, Bony picked up the ball and fired it across the face of goal, but there was no-one in the middle to convert.

However, minutes later and it was 1-0 to Michael Laudrup's men. Fulham gave the ball away from a free kick and Swansea played it short down the line before Aaron Hughes deflected the cross into his own net.

Despite struggling to create much in the early stages of the second half, Fulham equalised as Parker scored his first goal in three years. The former Tottenham Hotspur player received the ball and floated it into the far corner.

Swansea began to dominate possession and Bony sliced a shot wide as they pressed for a winner. Their pressure did pay off with 10 mintues left, however. Shelvey made his way to the edge of the area, before firing a shot into the top right-hand corner.
