Peter Taylor favourite to succeed Martin Allen

Peter Taylor is the favourite to replace Martin Allen as Gillingham boss, according to a report.

Former England caretaker coach Peter Taylor is reportedly verging on a return to Gillingham following the departure of Martin Allen.

Just two wins from 11 games sealed the 48-year-old's fate, despite him leading the Kent outfit to promotion from League Two last season.

According to The Mirror, Taylor, who has been out of club management since leaving Bradford City two years ago, is first choice to take over.

The 60-year-old left the Gills to take charge of Leicester City in 2000 and led the England Under-20s into this summer's World Cup in Turkey.
