Chris Powell: Huddersfield Town loss "tough to take"

Huddersfield Town manager Chris Powell admits that being knocked out of the League Cup by Notts County is "tough to take".

Chris Powell has described Huddersfield Town's exit from the League Cup as "tough to take" after they lost to 10-man Notts County in the first round.

The Championship side took the lead in the first half, but two goals from Liam Noble gave the League Two side the victory, despite Gill Swerts being sent off with 20 minutes remaining.

"That's tough to take. I wanted a cup run and it hasn't happened. They scored one of the best goals I've seen live, but our players have to perform and it didn't happen, it wasn't enough," the club's Twitter account quotes the manager as saying.

"We've got to fight through this, I've got to back my players and ensure the XI that goes out there produces. These players are definitely good enough, but we have to get going now. Our players have to show character and fight.

"We have to turn up on Saturday, we really need to get something from the Blackburn game to get going. There's no excuses, we should have had enough on the pitch tonight. It has given me food for thought."

Huddersfield lost 2-0 to Yorkshire rivals Hull City on the opening day of the Championship season.
