Mick McCarthy says that he is hoping to take his Ipswich Town side to Scotland for part of their pre-season training.

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has revealed that his team will travel to Scotland during the pre-season break.

Under previous boss Paul Jewell the Tractor Boys twice visited Holland, while Roy Keane took them to Ireland.

However, McCarthy has mapped out a short trip to Scotland, with St Mirren a potential opponent ahead of the new Championship season.

"We're looking at that. I just thought it would be nice if we could travel on a Friday, play on a Saturday, play on the Tuesday and come back Wednesday. That would be a nice mini trip that doesn't involve too many nights away," McCarthy is quoted as saying by the East Anglian Daily Times.

"We'll get a good Scottish tan and come back blue. I've spoken to St Mirren about it, but it's not confirmed as yet."

Ipswich's final game of the season on Saturday will see them travel to Burnley.
