Ipswich Town centre-back Tommy Smith believes that his side can make a run at the Championship playoffs this year.

Ipswich Town centre-back Tommy Smith has said that his side can make a playoff charge in the Championship this season.

Their season got off to a losing start at Reading on Saturday, but New Zealand international Smith insists that it has not deterred them.

"There's no reason why we can't achieve the playoffs," the 23-year-old told BBC Radio Suffolk.

"You look at Saturday's game - Reading would be one of the promotion favourites and we've matched them, if not played better than them."

Next up for the Tractor Boys is a trip to Stevenage in the League Cup tomorrow before their first home match of the season against Millwall on Saturday.
