Cesare Prandelli slams "ridiculous" World Cup draw

Italy manager Cesare Prandelli says that FIFA's system for determining the World Cup seeds "doesn't work and must be revised".

Italy manager Cesare Prandelli has said that the way teams are seeded for the World Cup draw is "ridiculous".

The Azzurri are not amongst the top seeds for this afternoon's draw, and Prandelli has criticised FIFA's decision to only use the world rankings from October.

"Everyone knows the system doesn't work and must be revised," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"If the ranking counts, then we are now seventh and were seventh for two and a half years, but the only month that counts is October... It's a bit ridiculous.

"We played against top teams to get in that position. In any case, it remains a draw and we'll see what happens."

Italy are one of the nine countries in Pot 4 for today's draw.
