Newcastle United too good for Leeds United

Goals from Papiss Cisse and Yoan Gouffran are enough to see Newcastle United reach the fourth round of the League Cup at the expense of Leeds United.

Newcastle United have advanced to the fourth round of the League Cup thanks to a 2-0 win over Leeds United at St James' Park.

The hosts carved out a number of opportunities in the first half, but could have been behind as early as the fifth minute when Ross McCormack hit the bar trying to chip Tim Krul.

Papiss Cisse squandered a couple of good opportunities before McCormack tested Krul once more, this time with the Dutch keeper making the save.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 31st minute when Sammy Amoebi burst down the right and supplied the Senegalese striker, who buried a header past Paddy Kenny.

Yoan Gouffran doubled the Magpies' lead in the 66th minute with a thunderous strike into the top corner.
