Massimo Cellino confirms Benito Carbone arrival as Leeds United academy boss

Leeds United's new owner Massimo Cellino confirms that Benito Carbone will join the club and work with the academy.

Leeds United's new owner Massimo Cellino has confirmed that Benito Carbone will join the club to work with the academy.

Recent rumours suggested that Cellino was considering Carbone as a replacement for Brian McDermott as first-team boss, but it seems that McDermott's position might be secure.

Cellino appears certain that 42-year-old Carbone, a former Sheffield Wednesday, Aston Villa and Bradford City player, will be able to improve the club's youth system.

"We have a lot of things to do and we need to start from the bottom again with the academy," Cellino told BBC Sport.

"Benito will rebuild the academy with my help. I will not accept the philosophies they have there at the moment because I don't like them - people must accept my conditions."

Whether McDermott will still be in charge of the first team next season is unclear, but Cellino is due to meet him to discuss future plans this week.

With one game of the Championship season left, Leeds are 15th in the table after a disappointing second half of the season.
