Former Leeds United boss Paul Heckingbottom encourages the Yorkshire giants to back new head coach Marcelo Bielsa.

Former Leeds United boss Paul Heckingbottom has claimed that the Yorkshire giants can win promotion to the Championship, providing that they back new head coach Marcelo Bielsa.

Earlier this summer, Heckingbottom was removed from his position in the dugout after just four months in charge to make way for the arrival of ex-Argentina chief Bielsa.

Heckingbottom has suggested that he is understanding of the circumstances surrounding the change, but feels that Leeds must fully support his replacement.

The 40-year-old told talkSPORT: "I really wish everybody at Leeds United well. It was a great experience for me, I had good time there and I worked with some really good people. It was just a change of direction from the club – they've gone with an experienced manager who is known all over the world.

"I just hope they back him and give him the support to make changes and give the fans there what they are crying out for. For me the Championship this season is wide open – there are no stand-out teams."

Leeds are yet to make any permanent signings this summer but continue to be linked with a number of additions.
