Neil Redfearn "very close" to Leeds United managerial appointment

Neil Redfearn reveals that he is close to being appointed as the new head coach of Leeds United, saying that he enjoys a good relationship with owner Massimo Cellino.

Neil Redfearn has revealed that he is "very close" to being appointed as the new head coach of Leeds United.

The 49-year-old has been widely tipped to take over the vacant position in charge at Elland Road following the sacking of Darko Milanic last week.

Owner Massimo Cellino has also dismissed Dave Hockaday this season following a bad start to the season, although Redfearn insists that he gets on well with the controversial figure.

Speaking to reporters this afternoon Redfearn, who enjoyed a successful temporary spell at the helm earlier this season, said: "I had a good chat with Massimo yesterday. He told me I am the future of the club. I want to be here for the long term.

"It's a massive honour. This is a massive football club, it's got a great tradition. I'm no different to anyone else in charge of football teams - I've got to win matches. I want my sides to go and play and be comfortable on the ball. I want them to show people that they care & play with pride."

Asked about his relationship with Cellino, the former Leeds academy manager responded: "I like him, I like his views and how he thinks about football. We get on well."

The Yorkshire outfit are currently 18th in the Championship table, with a trip to face Cardiff City next up.
