Claudio Ranieri: 'Riyad Mahrez to take a break from penalty duties'

Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri reveals that he is considering giving Riyad Mahrez a break from penalty duties after he missed a second successive spot kick against Villa.

Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri has revealed that Riyad Mahrez will take a break from penalty duties after missing his last two spot kicks.

The Algerian has been in scintillating form for the Foxes so far this season, but has gone off the boil a little in recent weeks, missing penalties in draws against Bournemouth and Aston Villa.

Ranieri is now considering removing the winger from spot-kick duties and hinted that Leonardo Ulloa could be the man to take over.

"Riyad was a little sad. I spoke with him and I said 'come on man, even champions miss penalties. I said 'don't worry, take a little break and you'll have a chance to take them again'," Ranieri told reporters.

"I will speak with my players [about who takes penalties]. Last season it was Leo Ulloa who took penalties. I will see."

Leicester will face Tottenham Hotspur for the third time in 10 days when they meet in an FA Cup third-round replay on Wednesday.
