Antoine Kombouare: 'My Lens players are heroes'

Lens manager Antoine Kombouare claims that his side played like "heroes" in the 1-0 Ligue 1 victory over Toulouse on Friday night.

Antoine Kombouare has labelled his Lens players as "heroes" following their 2-0 victory over Toulouse on Friday night.

The win took Lens off the bottom of the Ligue 1 table, and Kombouare was unable to hide his pride when reflecting on his side's performance at Stadium Municipal.

"We got the win with heart, youth and a carefree attitude. The players gave all they had and they are all heroes," the Lens boss told reporters. "We were expecting Toulouse to be on the warpath after losing to Marseille last week, but they couldn't break down our defence.

"I'm incredibly proud of my lads and I tip my hat to them. We had a strategy in place but for that to work we had to run like mad and tackle like pit bulls, which we did.

"We pulled off a huge defensive performance but the really hard work starts now as we need to back this result up. We weren't expecting to take the three points here but we won't get big-headed; we'll be back down to earth right away."

Lens return to action against Creteil in the French League Cup on Tuesday.
