Saturday's League One predictions including Barnsley vs. Birmingham City

Sports Mole provides score predictions and previews for all of today's League One fixtures, including Barnsley vs. Birmingham City.

Lincoln vs. Charlton (Saturday, 12.30pm)

Lincoln City manager Michael Skubala on August 10, 2024© Imago

Lincoln City and Charlton Athletic will both be looking to bounce back from midweek defeats when they face off at the LNER Stadium on Saturday.

The Imps head into the weekend in ninth place in League One, while the visitors are four points behind in 13th position.

We say: Lincoln City 1-1 Charlton Athletic

The two sides will be low on confidence following their poor run of results in League One, and with wins proving to be hard to come by, we think Lincoln and Charlton could play out a draw in a cagey contest at the LNER Stadium.

Wigan vs. Leyton Orient (Saturday, 12.30pm)

Leyton Orient will attempt to claim a second straight victory when they travel to the Brick Community Stadium for Saturday's away clash with Wigan Athletic.

The O's are sitting outside the League One relegation zone on goal difference, while the hosts are just two points better off in 17th position.

We say: Wigan Athletic 2-1 Leyton Orient

Wigan have won four of their previous five competitive matches against Leyton Orient, including each of their last three home encounters, and we think they will make full use of home advantage to claim another win over the O's on Saturday.

Barnsley vs. Birmingham (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Barnsley manager Darrell Clarke pictured on August 20, 2024© Imago

Looking to halt a worrying winless run, playoff-chasing Barnsley will welcome title favourites Birmingham City to Oakwell for a League One battle on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds suffered a last-gasp defeat at newly-promoted Wrexham earlier in the week, whilst Blues managed a comfortable victory over promotion rivals Stockport County.

We say: Barnsley 0-1 Birmingham City

In the midst of a five-game winless run, Barnsley will not be looking forward to the visit of promotion contenders Birmingham on Saturday afternoon.

Blues' attack is set to be blunted by the absence of Anderson, but we feel that the visitors should manage to grind out a narrow victory in South Yorkshire.

Blackpool vs. Rotherham (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Both aiming to continue climbs up the League One table with consecutive wins, Blackpool and Rotherham United will do battle at Bloomfield Road on Saturday.

The hosts have moved into the top half with a pair of victories, while their visitors sit 18th thanks to a crucial return to winning ways.

We say: Blackpool 1-1 Rotherham United

Both sides will be hoping to put tough starts to the season behind them and kick on after recent wins, while both possess plenty of quality in their ranks, making Saturday's meeting an intriguing one.

We see a share of the spoils as the most likely outcome with the two sides aiming to build a platform for further improvement in the coming weeks.

Bristol Rovers vs. Bolton (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Bristol Rovers head coach Matt Taylor pictured on September 28, 2024© Imago

A struggling Bristol Rovers side are set to host promotion-chasing Bolton Wanderers at Memorial Stadium on Saturday in League One.

Rovers are currently 16th in the table with 21 points from their 18 games so far, while Bolton are seventh after accumulating 30 points from their 17 matches this season.

We say: Bristol Rovers 1-2 Bolton Wanderers

Even though Bristol Rovers are struggling at the moment, especially offensively, they could find holes in Bolton's weak defence to score a rare goal.

However, the Trotters have scored significantly more than the Gas this season, and may prove too much for Horseman's side to handle.

Burton Albion vs. Wrexham (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Wrexham will look to claim a fourth consecutive victory when they travel to the Pirelli Stadium for Saturday's League One clash with Burton Albion.

Meanwhile, the relegation-threatened hosts will attempt to record a second straight victory after getting the better of Peterborough United in their most recent outing.

We say: Burton Albion 0-2 Wrexham

Wrexham have been unable to replicate their impressive home on the road this season, but while they have struggled to pick up wins on their travels, we still believe they will have the extra quality required to get the better of relegation-threatened Burton.

Cambridge vs. Shrewsbury (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Relegation-threatened Cambridge United and Shrewsbury Town are set to clash in a 'six-pointer' at Cledara Abbey Stadium on Saturday in League One.

The U's are currently 22nd with 13 points from their 17 games so far, while the Shrews are 24th with 11 points from their 17 matches.

We say: Cambridge United 1-2 Shrewsbury Town

In this relegation clash, both sides will be desperate to take points from each other to avoid being cut adrift at the foot of the League One table.

However, Shrewsbury seem to be benefitting from the 'new manager bounce' and the influence of boss Ainsworth may lead to a victory against Monk's team.

Crawley vs. Stevenage (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Crawley Town are set to host rivals Stevenage at Broadfield Stadium on Saturday in League One as both sides look to build on wins last time out.

Rob Elliot's Crawley are currently 19th with 19 points from their 18 games this season, while Alex Revell's Stevenage occupy 14th place after picking up 22 points from 17 matches.

We say: Crawley Town 1-1 Stevenage

Crawley are in good form at the moment having recorded consecutive wins and will head into Saturday's game confident of achieving a positive result.

On the other hand, Revell's side's defence may prove too stubborn to score more than one against, and given Elliot's side have conceded 28 goals this season, they may not be able to keep even Stevenage at bay.

Mansfield vs. Huddersfield (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Aiming to continue their climb towards the top two in the League One table, Huddersfield Town will visit the One Call Stadium on Saturday to take on Mansfield Town.

The visitors have moved up to fourth spot with three straight victories, while their hosts have dropped out of the top six and down to 10th spot in the midst of a rut.

We say: Mansfield Town 0-1 Huddersfield Town

While Mansfield Town suffered a fourth straight defeat on Tuesday, they did lead 1-0 away at a strong Bolton side until Hiram Boateng's second-half red card and will certainly pose a tough test for Huddersfield.

The visitors are beginning to show their quality, though, and with momentum growing, we back Duff's men to take all three points from a tight encounter at the One Call Stadium.

Stockport vs. Exeter (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Promotion hopefuls Stockport County are set to host Exeter City at Edgeley Park on Saturday in League One.

Stockport are currently fifth with 30 points from their 18 matches so far, while Exeter are 11th after picking up 24 points from 17 games.

We say: Stockport County 2-1 Exeter City

Exeter have proven they have the capacity to be competitive with teams higher in the table, so they can be expected to net on Saturday.

However, the Hatters will be keen to get back to winning ways this weekend, and their greater offensive output could see them score more than once to take all three points.

Wycombe vs. Reading (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Wycombe Wanderers manager Matt Bloomfield during the EFL Cup match against Northampton Town on August 13, 2024© Imago

Wycombe Wanderers play host to Reading on Saturday afternoon looking to further strengthen their position at the top of the League One table.

Meanwhile, the Royals make the trip to Adams Park with Ruben Selles having agreed to become the new manager of Hull City, leaving them in a period of uncertainty.

We say: Wycombe Wanderers 2-0 Reading

Sitting just nine points apart, Reading have reason for optimism ahead of this contest. Nevertheless, losing Selles is a major blow, and we feel that Wycombe should come through this contest in relatively comfortable fashion.
