Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp defends Spartak Moscow over their indifferent form ahead of the Champions League fixture between the two clubs.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has described Spartak Moscow's Otkrytiye Arena as a "difficult place to win".

Spartak have endured a poor start to the season, with 14 points from 11 games leaving the Russian giants in eighth place in the top flight.

However, Klopp has played down Spartak's domestic troubles by claiming that he expects a tough Champions League encounter on Tuesday night.

The 50-year-old told reporters: "They are a very strong and experienced side. This season has been difficult but they have had a lot of injuries.

"We will be ready and we need to be. It is a difficult place to win."

Spartak began their group-stage campaign with a 1-1 draw away in Maribor.
