Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has stated that the penalty heroics from goalkeeper Adam Bogdan against Carlisle United did not surprise his teammates.
The Hungarian stopper kept out three of the League Two side's spot kicks to help Liverpool emerge victorious from their League Cup third-round tie at Anfield, having been held to a 1-1 draw after extra time.
Skrtel has said that the Liverpool players were already aware of Bogdan's penalty-saving prowess.
"It was great for Adam. We'd practised penalties the day before the game just in case – and it turned out we needed them to go through," the centre-back told Liverpool's official website.
"Adam was good. It was his first game, his first game at Anfield, and he's been doing well. In the penalties, he showed his quality. Obviously we expected it to be a different game, but as we know there is no easy game here in England.
"But the main thing is we went through to the next round and we're happy about that."
Liverpool will face Bournemouth in the round of 16 on October 28.
