Attorney General Dominic Grieve QC wants fresh inquests into deaths of 96 people during the Hillsborough disaster.

Dominic Grieve QC has revealed that he will apply for fresh inquests into the deaths of 96 Liverpool supporters during the 1989 Hillsborough disaster.

The Attorney General's decision comes on the back of the Hillsborough Independent Panel's report, which concluded that Liverpool fans were not to blame for the loss of lives.

The findings also suggested that the authorities had attempted to cover up a number of facts.

"I am persuaded that an application to the court for fresh inquests must be made," Grieve said earlier today. "Were there to be criminal proceedings, that could impact on when inquests take place."

As yet there is no indication as to when any inquests will be held.
