Christian Benteke "excited" to get going at Liverpool

New Liverpool striker Christian Benteke declares that he joined the club in order to "win trophies", following successive seasons battling relegation with Aston Villa.

Christian Benteke has admitted that he is relishing the chance to win silverware with Liverpool, having completed a switch from Aston Villa.

The Belgian forward signed a long-term contract at Anfield this evening to end weeks of speculation over his future.

Benteke has yet to meet up with his new teammates, who are currently on the last leg of their pre-season tour of the Far East and Australia, but he insists that he cannot wait to get going.

"I'm very excited," he told the Reds' official website. "I want to meet them and work with them, of course. I came here to win trophies. I came here to reach some great goals with the team.

"I'm very happy to be part of the Liverpool family now and I will do everything to make them happy and work hard for them and my teammates.

"I think it was the right club for me because I had a good chat with the manager and I wanted to be part of his project. I think when I came here with Aston Villa [it was] a great feeling to play at Anfield. Now, to be in the home shirt is going to be an exciting feeling."

Benteke joins James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan, Joe Gomez, Roberto Firmino and Nathaniel Clyne in making a move to Liverpool this summer.
