Jurgen Klopp plays down title talk

Jurgen Klopp believes that it is much too early to consider Liverpool as Premier League title contenders.

Jurgen Klopp has refused to entertain the idea that Liverpool could potentially win the Premier League this season.

The Reds smashed Manchester City 4-1 at the Etihad last week in what is considered the flagship result in Klopp's burgeoning spell in England after replacing Brendan Rodgers last month.

Nevertheless, nine points separates Liverpool from the table-topping Sky Blues, and the German, who won two Bundesliga titles with Borussia Dortmund, is not looking ahead.

"I have a little bit of experience with winning titles – not the biggest but a little. So I know what helps and what doesn't – and what doesn't help is to talk about things you have no influence on," he is quoted as saying by The Mirror.

"We are eight points behind Leicester and six points off fourth place. We've only played most teams once and we can only take three points from each game, so we just need to keep on working.

"We have to use our situation in good moments and to accept our situation in bad moments – and then to work. That's all we can do. Let's see where we are in May or June. I don't even know when the season ends!"

They host Swansea City at Anfield on Sunday.
