Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insists that he is still the right man to lead the club to success, claiming that there are few alternatives who "would do the job better".

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted that he remains the best man to lead the club to future success, claiming that it would be "difficult to find better options" if he were to be sacked.

The Reds have had a frustrating start to the new season, sitting seven points adrift of Premier League leaders Manchester City after the first seven games and picking up just one win in seven in all competitions before the international break.

Klopp, who celebrated two years in charge at Anfield last weekend, has come in for criticism from some sections of the Reds' fanbase in recent months for the lack of trophies during his tenure and an overall Premier League performance that is inferior to his predecessor Brendan Rodgers.

"I don't think I'm perfect but it's difficult to find better options," Klopp told reporters this afternoon. "If 99% of Liverpudlians think we're going the right way then it's okay.

"The good old times where we dominate for 20 years will not come back either. Our job is to fight with every point.

"We had to improve to get into situation we're in. If they sacked me now I don't think a lot of managers would do the job better.

"I'm not overly happy. I didn't open immediately a bottle of champagne. There's still a long way to go. But we could have more points. I'm calm and cool with all the things we've still to do."

Klopp's side face a tough test when they welcome in-form Manchester United to Anfield tomorrow afternoon.
