Garry Monk claims that he is "gutted" over manager Brendan Rodgers's departure to take over at Liverpool.

Swansea City defender Garry Monk has admitted that he is "gutted" over manager Brendan Rodgers's departure from the club.

Rodgers is expected to take charge of Liverpool in the next 24 hours after holding discussions with the Merseysiders on Wednesday.

When asked what his reaction was to the developments, Monk told Sky Sports News: "Gutted. He's a top, top manager.

"He got us to where we are. Since the day he came in [to Swansea] he's been a breath of fresh air and it'll be sad to lose him."

Rodgers joined the Welsh side in 2010 after a short spell at Reading.
