Brendan Rodgers delighted by Daniel Sturridge start

Brendan Rodgers says that Daniel Sturridge will prove to be an excellent signing for Liverpool.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed his delight at Daniel Sturridge's start to his Reds career.

The 23-year-old joined the Merseysiders from Chelsea for £12m at the beginning of the month, and scored on his debut for the club during their 2-1 win over Mansfield Town in the FA Cup third round.

The striker also netted on his first Premier League match for the side as they lost 2-1 to Manchester United, and Rodgers believes that Sturridge will prove to be a hit at Anfield.

"He's been great since he has come in. He's only been here a short time and he's not fully fit yet but you can see he's going to get lots of goals in this team," said Rodgers.

"He looks a real threat. When he's in on the shoulder you always think he's going to score.

"You look at his goal. It was a terrific hit by Steven Gerrard, David De Gea palmed it out, and he reads it and gets the finish. That put us back into the game at 2-1 and from that moment it looked like it was only going to be us who got the next goal."

Liverpool host Norwich City in their next game on Saturday.
