Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers: 'Jordan Henderson can fill Steven Gerrard void'

Brendan Rodgers believes that Jordan Henderson can fill the void left by Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, who will leave Anfield at the end of the season.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has expressed his belief that Jordan Henderson has all the right attributes to step into Steven Gerrard's boots once the club captain leaves Anfield at the end of the season.

The 34-year-old is widely expected to sign an 18-month deal with MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy after he announced last week that he will end his 25-year Liverpool career in May.

Henderson was handed the vice-captaincy earlier this season, and Rodgers is confident that the 24-year-old has learned from Gerrard's leadership.

"I think Jordan Henderson has all the leadership attributes, that was one of the reasons I made him vice-captain...he had no greater captain to learn from than Steven," Rodgers told reporters.

"He was benefiting from his example even before he was vice-captain, but certainly in that new role he has been in pole position in terms of learning from a great, how the job works on and off the field.

"So when the day comes that Steven does move on we feel we have someone there to offer the same wisdom and knowledge even if he is a different type of player."

Henderson joined Liverpool from Sunderland in 2011.
