The agent of Barcelona attacker Philippe Coutinho claims that it is up to Liverpool to decide whether to pursue a summer move for his client.

The agent of Barcelona attacker Philippe Coutinho has said that it is up to Liverpool to decide whether to pursue a move for his client in this summer's transfer window.

Coutinho is reportedly keen to re-join the Reds ahead of the 2019-20 campaign, having struggled to settle in Spain since leaving Anfield in January 2018.

Kia Joorabchian has said that he has not been made aware of any interest from Liverpool in their former player, but the agent has not closed the door on a potential return to Merseyside this summer.

"The thing is, Liverpool have built a tremendous squad, the manager has a great balance there and it's probably one of the run football clubs in the country," Joorabchian told talkSPORT.

"So with the build-up they've done and the squad they have, it [signing Coutinho] would really have to be something they would have to decide whether or not they feel there is now a current gap in the squad for someone like Philippe.

"I think it's going to be a very difficult deal, but most of the big ones are always very, very difficult. Obviously if he were to move back [to the Premier League], it would have to be Liverpool, but at the moment I think it would be difficult and it would be up to them."

Coutinho, who helped Brazil win this summer's Copa America, scored 54 times in 201 appearances for Liverpool ahead of a switch to Camp Nou.
