John Barnes: 'Christian Benteke should join Liverpool'

John Barnes believes that Liverpool have to sign Christian Benteke from Aston Villa this summer.

Former Liverpool winger John Barnes believes that the club must sign Christian Benteke this summer.

The Aston Villa striker has been linked with a move to Anfield in recent weeks, with reports suggesting that he is interested in joining the Merseyside outfit.

Barnes says that Benteke would offer something that Liverpool are missing in attack.

"Christian Benteke would be a great signing for Liverpool - What Liverpool have lacked is a presence up front. They have good approach play, but have been unable to get the ball in the box," he told talkSPORT.

"With Benteke, as well as playing the fluent football Liverpool can, they would also have the option of being a bit more direct. I would be excited about that if he comes."

Benteke has scored 15 goals in 32 games this season.
