Liverpool left-back Kostas Tsimikas signs a new long-term contract with the Reds, believed to be a two-year extension until the summer of 2027.

Liverpool left-back Kostas Tsimikas has signed a new long-term contract with the Reds.

The 27-year-old's previous terms were due to expire at the end of the 2024-25 campaign, but it was reported that the Greek defender was in line for an extension earlier this month.

Liverpool did not specify the length of Tsimikas's renewal, but he is believed to have penned a two-year extension, keeping him at Anfield until the summer of 2027.

"I feel very glad to be here to extend my contract. I feel like all the sacrifices I did and other things, the work I put in, [that] everything pays off," Tsimikas told the official Liverpool website.

"But this keeps me fully motivated for the rest. As I've said in many, many interviews, this team has many, many things to achieve all together and I wanted to be from the first minute a part of it.

"More success, more work and more trophies. For me it is the most important thing, to win trophies, to be committed in every situation, to be part of all of this.

"I think this team has very big potential to win more trophies and we will go for it. Everybody, I think, is 100 per cent there [and] focused for the next games and everybody is ready to achieve big things in the future."

Liverpool forked out €13m (£11.3m) to poach Tsimikas from Olympiacos in the summer of 2020, as the left-back arrived on Merseyside to provide cover and competition to Andrew Robertson.

Over the past three years, Tsimikas has played second fiddle to the Scotland international, but he has still made 63 appearances in all competitions, setting up 12 goals in the process.

Tsimikas's debut season at Anfield was blighted by injuries, and he played just five minutes in total during the 2020-21 Premier League campaign, but he blossomed into an important player for Jurgen Klopp in the following months.

The 2021-22 season saw Tsimikas help Liverpool clinch an FA Cup and EFL Cup double, registering one assist in each competition, and while he did not start either of the two finals against Chelsea, he scored the winning penalty in the shootout in the FA Cup showpiece match.

The Greece international also made a Premier League starting lineup on nine occasions, as well as providing two assists in a Champions League quarter-final clash with Benfica, as the Reds reached the final before losing to Real Madrid.

Tsimikas added another six assists to his record from 28 matches last season, making another nine starts in the Premier League and four in the Champions League, but his only appearance in a first XI this season so far came in Thursday's Europa League win over LASK Linz.

The former Olympiacos man has failed to make it off the bench in Liverpool's last four Premier League games, but he is expected to come into the starting lineup for Wednesday's EFL Cup clash against Leicester City in the third round.

Tsimikas has extended his stay with Liverpool only days after Ben Doak signed a new long-term deal, while Adrian, Stefan Bajcetic and Curtis Jones have also renewed over the past 12 months.
