How Manchester City could line up against Schalke 04

Sports Mole looks at how Manchester City could line up for their Champions League last-16 second leg against Schalke 04 on Tuesday evening.

Manchester City will be looking to maintain their winning run when they welcome Schalke 04 to the Etihad Stadium for the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.

The Citizens won the reverse fixture 3-2 in Gelsenkirchen through goals from Sergio Aguero, Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling, having trailed 2-1 with five minutes of that match to play.

Taking all competitions into account, City have now won nine matches in a row and have been victorious in 17 of their last 18 games.

Ahead of Schalke's visit to Manchester on Tuesday evening, Sports Mole looks at how the hosts could line up.

Possible MCI XI vs. SCH

Out: Nicolas Otamendi (suspended), Fernandinho (muscular), Kevin De Bruyne (hamstring), Claudio Bravo (hamstring)
Doubtful: John Stones (muscular)

Pep Guardiola made a couple of enforced changes for the 3-1 win over Watford at the weekend, replacing injured duo John Stones and Kevin De Bruyne with Vincent Kompany and Riyad Mahrez.

Stones is expected to remain absent on Tuesday, while Nicolas Otamendi is suspended following his red card in the first leg, so Aymeric Laporte - with just 45 minutes of playing time under his belt since the reverse meeting - should join Kompany in the backline.

Fabian Delph may return from illness, giving Guardiola an additional option at both left-back and in holding midfield, though it could be a case of sticking with Oleksandr Zinchenko and Ilkay Gundogan respectively.

Further forward, Sane and Gabriel Jesus started on the bench against Watford and are in contention for recalls here, though Aguero is unlikely to drop out of the frontline, despite being in need of a rest.
