Alan Pardew: 'We couldn't have given more'

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew says that he was satisfied with his team's effort during their League Cup defeat to Manchester City.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has applauded his team's effort following their 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the League Cup.

The Magpies boss conceded that Alvaro Negredo's opening goal in extra time is what sealed his side's fate.

"It was tough, I think my team couldn't have given any more and when you get the first goal in extra time it is always important, and we had a great chance but it fell away for us," BBC Sport quotes him as saying.

Edin Dzeko bagged the Sky Blues' second to set up quarter-final meeting with Leicester City.
