Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson accepts Sadio Mane apology

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson accepts an apology from Liverpool star Sadio Mane after the pair's clash at the Etihad on September 9.

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has accepted an apology from Liverpool's Sadio Mane after the pair's clash at the Etihad Stadium on September 9.

Reds star Mane was sent off by referee Jon Moss in City's 5-0 thrashing of Liverpool after the Senegalese raised his boot and caught the goalkeeper, who received treatment on the pitch for eight minutes.

Ederson featured in his side's 4-0 win over Feyenoord in the Champions League just four days later and has continued to be a key figure in City's recent rampant form.

"Yes I had contact with [Mane]. He sent me a message. I told him to stay calm, those things happen on the pitch, it could happen anytime. I told him not to worry and wished him a good season," Ederson told reporters.

"I ended up having a hard hit in the face but in the same week I was ready to play in the Champions League. I faced that game full of confidence again, without any fear and happy for the result we achieved.

"I felt a strong kick. I knew it had been a long cut. I wanted to keep playing but, for medical issues, I couldn't. I was always conscious, even if I had my face a little bit swollen. After a week it was normal again."

City host Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Tuesday before travelling to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in a crunch Premier League meeting.
