Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott admits that he will struggle to retain his England place if he does not play in more games for the Premier League champions.

Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott has admitted that the form of Matija Nastasic is making it hard for him to break back into City's starting lineup.

The Serbian centre-back's introduction has seen City's defence improve in recent weeks and despite starting in his side's 1-1 draw with Everton at the weekend, Lescott has admitted that he could lose his England place if he does not feature more regularly.

Lescott told The Sun: "It's important I stay fit and get back in the team.

"It's nice to have played for England but I need to force my way back into our side first to have a chance of staking a claim for my country.

"It'll be hard to break back regularly with Matija playing so well."

The 30-year-old has made 24 appearances for England.
