Manchester City admit to making 'mistakes' with Frank Lampard's contract

Manchester City admit that they made 'errors' and misled fans by announcing the wrong details regarding Frank Lampard's contract at the club and MLS side New York City.

Manchester City have admitted that they made 'mistakes' with regards to Frank Lampard's contract.

The former England international was thought to have joined MLS side New York City FC on a two-year contract back in August and then secured a loan deal with the Premier League champions.

However, it has since emerged that Lampard never signed a deal with the newly-formed franchise in the United States and was solely registered to City on a "short-term contract", which was extended until the end of the season on New Year's Day.

Man City have today clarified Lampard's contract situation by claiming: "The statement on the NYCFC website in July saying Lampard's two-year contract took effect from Aug 1, 2014 was a mistake. [The] initial statement on City's website that it was a loan was also an error.

"There was never a break clause in Lampard's contract dated December 31 - [there was a] short-term contract with City [that] only ran to Dec 31. There was a head of terms commitment from Lampard to join NYCFC from Jan 1, 2015. That was extended to the end of this season. Any contract with NYCFC will now take effect from July 1, 2015."

Lampard released his own statement earlier today to address the "lies and nonsense".
