Matija Nastasic will be assessed by Manchester City once they return to England after suffering an ankle injury in Hong Kong.

Manchester City are being forced to face a nervous wait before discovering the extent of Matija Nastasic's ankle injury.

The defender was taken off on a stretcher during the club's 1-0 win over Sunderland in Hong Kong on Saturday in a match that saw them lift the Barclays Asia Trophy.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that the 20-year-old will be examined once they return to England, but insists that the poor pitch in the Far East was not to blame.

"We don't know," Pellegrini told Sky Sports News. "We will see when we arrive in Manchester. It's his ankle but we don't know how long it will be.

"It wasn't the pitch though. He got a kick on his ankle but it was just part of the game."

Nastasic was replaced after 77 minutes by Joleon Lescott at the weekend.
