Roberto Mancini insists that Manchester City need to grab 90 points at the end of the season but concedes that January will be tough for his side.

Roberto Mancini believes that Manchester City will be crowned Premier League champions if they claim 90 points at the end of the season.

The North West side have 44 points as they head into the season's hectic festive sechedule, but the Italian boss thinks that his team need to snatch every point in order to keep Manchester United at bay.

"We are happy [to be top] but as I said, it's important to stay top at the end of the season," Mancini told BBC Sport. "If we want to win the championship we should get 90 points because Manchester United keep winning.

"January is an important month. We will have a lot of games and we lose two important players like Yaya Toure and Kolo Toure [to the African Cup of Nations] and I hope we are lucky and don't get any injuries."

The red half of Manchester currently sit two points adrift of their fierce rivals.
