Roberto Mancini predicts a busy summer at Manchester City.

Roberto Mancini will splash the cash this summer as he looks to strengthen his Manchester City squad for a Champions League challenge next season.

The Italian has cited Barcelona and Real Madrid, who regularly break the bank for big-name players, as examples for the Citizens to follow.

"Barcelona and Real Madrid every year buy two or three players and spend a lot of money," said Mancini. "I think for Manchester City it will be the same.

"We need to improve. We need to have the strength to play Champions League and Premier League."

City's record transfer fee is £32m, which they spent acquiring Robinho from Real Madrid in 2008.
