Man City regain their five-point advantage over Man Utd with a 3-1 win over Wolves at the Etihad.

Man City have re-established their five-point lead over Man Utd at the top of the table with a 3-1 win over Wolves at the Etihad.

The visitors did well to hold off City in the first half, leaving the scoreline goalless going into the break.

The first goal came six minutes after the restart when Edin Dzeko fired into the middle of the net from just outside the penalty area.

Left-back Aleksandar Kolarov made it two in the 66th minute, shooting past Wayne Hennessey from the edge of the six-yard area.

Things began to turn in Wolves' favour shortly afterwards when Vincent Kompany was sent off for a foul on striker Kevin Doyle.

Stephen Hunt made good of the resultant penalty to give Wolves a last-minute lifeline at 2-1. Manager Mick McCarthy's three changes pushed the hosts hard but it ultimately proved fruitless as City extended their lead in the dying minutes. Substitute Adam Johnson - reportedly involved in a dispute with Roberto Mancini earlier in the week - made it 3-1 with a long range effort into the bottom left.

Next up for Man City is a trip to QPR in next Saturday's late kick-off, while Wolves play host to Wigan next Sunday.
