Kevin De Bruyne 'ready to open contract talks with Manchester City'

Kevin De Bruyne is reportedly open to discussing a new contract with Manchester City if the club successfully overturn their two-year European suspension.

Kevin De Bruyne is reportedly open to discussing a new contract with Manchester City, providing that the club are able to successfully overturn their two-year European suspension.

As it stands, the reigning Premier League champions will not be able to play in the Champions League until the 2022-23 campaign, having been handed a two-season ban for breaching Financial Fair Play rules.

City's case will be heard in June, but it has been suggested that De Bruyne could look to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer if the club are unable to overturn the decision.

According to Goal, the Belgium international is prepared to discuss a new deal with Pep Guardiola's side, although the talks would rely on City keeping their position in the Champions League.

De Bruyne, who still has three years left to run on his contract in Manchester, has scored nine times and provided 19 assists in 35 appearances at club level during the 2019-20 campaign.

City are likely to relinquish control of the Premier League title this season, though, as they are 25 points behind runaway leaders Liverpool ahead of the return of England's top flight in the middle of June.
