Report: Vincent Kompany key for Pep Guardiola at Manchester City

Manchester City are reportedly planning a summer rebuild under new boss Pep Guardiola, but skipper Vincent Kompany will not be a casualty.

Pep Guardiola has reportedly informed Manchester City bosses that Vincent Kompany is part of his plans when he takes over at the Etihad this summer.

Kompany has endured a difficult season with City – he is currently out with his fourth calf problem of the year – but Guardiola does not appear to be too concerned by the Belgian's injury record.

According to The Mirror, current Bayern Munich boss Guardiola is planning a summer of change but Kompany is not among those possibly set to leave.

However, the club will try to offload fellow defender Eliaquim Mangala, who has failed to make a good enough impression since his £42m arrival in 2014, according to The Times.

Sunday's Manchester derby defeat saw City fall 15 points behind leaders Leicester City in the Premier League and they are as close to Swansea City in 15th as the Foxes at the top.
