Mike Phelan sceptical of Manchester United progress

Former Manchester United assistant coach Mike Phelan believes that the team will find it difficult getting past Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Former Manchester United assistant coach Mike Phelan has played down the team's chances of beating Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals.

United travel to the Allianz Arena tonight having drawn 1-1 with Bayern at Old Trafford last week.

Despite his former club still being in the tie, Phelan believes that they will have their work cut out reaching the last four of the competition at the expense of the defending champions.

"It's always the danger with Bayern that they'll have learned from the first game," he told BBC Sport. "The Germans in their own back yard are very difficult to beat."

United head into this evening's match on the back of Saturday's 4-0 win over Newcastle United in the Premier League.
