Fernando Llorente to miss first two games of Premier League season

Swansea City manager Paul Clement confirms that striker Fernando Llorente is likely to miss his side's matches against Southampton and Manchester United through injury.

Swansea City manager Paul Clement has confirmed that Fernando Llorente is likely to miss his side's first two games of the new Premier League season due to injury.

The Spanish striker suffered a fractured arm in a cycling accident on holiday during the summer break and missed Swansea's pre-season tour to the United States as a result.

Clement is expecting to still be without Llorente for the season opener against Southampton and Swansea's first home game of the campaign against Manchester United the following weekend, but hopes that the 32-year-old will not be sidelined for much longer than that.

"Fernando's rehabilitating individually - he has not joined the team training yet. But assuming all goes well, we anticipate that happening in the next 10 days," Clement told the club's official website.

"I think it is unlikely he will be involved in the first couple of games, but his return will not be long after that. The most important thing is that we get the arm right.

"You don't want him to re-fracture it and then end up with Fernando needing surgery, because a six-week injury can then become a six-month injury."

Llorente, who has been linked with a summer move to Premier League champions Chelsea, scored 15 goals for Swansea last season.
