Angel di Maria "thankful to Manchester United" over summer move

Angel di Maria says that he is "thankful and happy" Manchester United broke the British record transfer fee to capture his signature last summer.

Angel di Maria has insisted that the hefty price tag which took him from Real Madrid to Manchester United in the summer is not something which weighs heavily on his shoulders.

The Red Devils smashed the British record transfer fee paid out for a player back in August to sign the 26-year-old at a cost of £59.7m.

Di Maria has made an instant impact at Old Trafford by chipping in with an array of goals and assists, although he is currently sidelined due to a small tear in his hamstring.

Speaking to SPORT magazine over his high-profile move, the Argentina international said: "I am thankful to Manchester United for bringing me here. Regarding the fee paid for me, it is an arrangement between clubs. I just play.

"If the amount paid reflects my value and United decided to pay it, then I am thankful and happy for that."

United, who are currently fourth in the Premier League table, return to action on Monday night when they take on Southampton.
